There were soooooo many good ones considering the IP, but also they just seemed to pick some really great options to make and they made a boatload of them. I don’t think any game has pulled off making me want multiple skins for the same character like that game did. Plus I loved how easy it was to switch characters, I never felt locked into just one way of playing. Rogue alone was absolutely nuts, but even characters like Nightcrawler and Squirrel Girl had really unique playstyles. Not only was there just something so cool about being able to play so many Marvel characters (especially some of the lesser used characters) with a combat system that has a pretty fair amount of depth, but some of the actual character kits themselves were really clever. There’s nothing out there that has filled the gap it left either. But it was 100% my favorite ARPG and I loved the MMO aspects like the open world zones and busy hubs and group raids. It was far from perfect and sometimes they made some really bad decisions.
It had a lot of faults and it’s gone now, but Marvel Heroes. It's the only game I've seen where new players naturally gravitate towards roleplaying the whole pirate thing. In their favor, I can say PP had the best community I've come across. Guilds would just open shops for themselves, use alts to produce everything at cost and fuel their own ships. Instead of the demand keeping the wages high, the alts tanked the values and most shops just offered pennies worth. Labor was hard to come by so people started using alts to work their own shops. Pillages got rarer and rarer as the game went on.ĥ) Multiclient. And considering you could buy premium currency with real money and then convert it to in-game money. It was easier to get a fortune going on one poker hand than it was to pillage for the whole week. Wars were rare.Ĥ) Not only were gambling tables open for all the kids to bet their game money into, poker was actually the biggest money maker/sink of the game. So after a while the big dogs just decided to settled into a "status quo" situation.

If you decide to run a pillage, you have to commit a good chuck of uninterrupted free time or risk leaving your boat and crew floating in the middle of the ocean. Your guild can help you out from time to time, but the game is definitely not made around short sessions. Hunts can take even longer just to get a crew together. Plus the Doubloon prices for the F2P server were ridiculously high even for basic stuff like delivering clothes so new players were spooked right out of the gate.Ģ) Once you start running your own voyages, even a short pillage session will take at the very least an hour. This means the subscription server ended up with a much smaller population. This may be out of date as it's been years since I played last:ġ) Their base (which is already small) was split into 2 types of server. But It had (has?) some problems that kept it from being a lot more.
